In accordance with the "Fundamentals of the State Policy of the Russian Federation in the Field of Naval Activities for the Period 2030", the protection of the interests of the state requires the Russian Navy to solve problems related to the protection of sea routes and coastal waters of the Russian Federation, the presence and deterrence of a potential enemy in strategically important distant sea zones and various areas of the World Ocean.

   The number and intensity of combat services, including in the ocean zone, is increasing, which, of course, makes the task of preserving the health of the personnel of ships and units of the Russian Navy performing combat service in remote areas of the World Ocean more pressing.

   The modern system of providing medical care on ships at sea has significant features and differences from generally accepted regulated standards of providing medical care.

   The presented manual for naval surgeons "Emergency Surgery" sets out general and frequently asked questions on providing emergency surgical care for diseases and injuries. One of the objectives of this manual is to define a unified surgical tactic and ensure continuity of surgical care on ships of the Navy. Therapeutic and diagnostic measures are based on modern clinical recommendations and correspond to the actual capabilities of the ships.

   The manual for naval surgeons "Emergency Surgery" was written by the staff of the Department of Naval Surgery together with leading specialists of the Military Medical Academy and chief specialists of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, who have extensive personal experience in providing emergency surgical care in ship conditions while on combat duty at sea, which makes it an invaluable creative work and an indispensable reference material when performing combat missions to protect the interests of our Motherland in any strategic waters.
