Новости: Medical and statistical indicators of morbidity among servicemen of the Russian Navy (2003-2021) Part 1

August 4 (16), 2025 marks 220 years since the decision to create an independent governing body for the medical service of the Russian Navy. It is appropriate to point out that the formation of naval medicine should be attributed to the Azov campaigns of Emperor Peter I (1695-1696), since during this period the Navy appeared in Russia and the need arose to provide medical care to those injured in naval battles.

It has been established that the security and combat readiness of the Russian Armed Forces are largely determined by the health of military personnel. Naval support of the fleet includes a set of measures carried out to increase combat readiness and optimize the performance of military specialists, maintain and strengthen health, prevent and diagnose diseases, their timely treatment and rehabilitation.

In order to calculate the necessary forces and resources of the medical service, it is necessary to know the specifics of combat training, the characteristics of the tasks to be solved and the special conditions of the fleet's activities, which determine the increased risk of stress (overstrain) of the functional reserves of the body of military personnel, the occurrence of professionally accelerated diseases or injuries.

The analysis of morbidity among naval specialists is the subject of several publications, which studied morbidity, generally from 2003 to 2016. Bibliographic records of these books are presented in the appendix. Morbidity studies for a later period have not been conducted. They can become a reference when compared with morbidity data for military personnel who took part in a special military operation.

The objective is to study medical and statistical indicators of morbidity of the entire cohort of the Russian Navy, including by categories of military personnel from 2003 to 2021 (peacetime).

From a practical point of view, the monograph is published in two parts: Part 1 contains medical and statistical indicators of morbidity of the entire cohort of servicemen of the Russian Navy and servicemen serving by conscription, Part 2 - indicators of morbidity of servicemen serving under contract, including officers, warrant officers, sailors and petty officers, female servicemen.
